This board game uses various tenses, so it helps to revise the usage of the whole tense system at the end of a course or series of lessons. It can be used with adults, young adults and even teenagers during any course (General, Business, ESP).
I actually used the idea of this game many times before, at different levels and with different students, both individually and in groups, though mostly the prompts were just scribbled on post-its and put together into something resembling some strange flower, as you can see in the picture ;-).
This is a more “civilised” and a nicer-looking version. The idea is very simple: students have to choose the right tense for a time phrase they get, and to make a sentence or a couple of sentenses using this tense + phrase. What I personally like about the game is that it is highly personalised (players talk about themselves or about somebody from their life) and that it can be fine-tuned and used in many contexts easlily. That’s why I daresay it is pro-Dogme.
Hope you will use and enjoy it!
tense revision board game teachers notes
- The game’s complexity generally depends on the group’s English level: the higher it is, the more complicated sentences or even short speeches you can expect and encourage.
- The game can be a good warmer activity or, on the contrary, a good cooler.

These games are very good to use as fluency activities. I’ve had great success using them with children
Thanks for commenting. yes, they work well with adults too. Altough I guess children can be much more resourseful, can’t they?
